“Hy was ’n vabond, maar hy het nooit kwaad gepraat van ander nie.”

Limpie Basson
1930 – 2008
Kaliel September (Fiela se Kind), Oom Ampie (Arende), homself (Radio Goeie Hoop)…ensovoorts.
Maar my gunsteling, Oom Niklaas Struis (Manakwalanners)
So gaan die Groot Geeste een vir een…

Comment deur cebella Januarie 2, 2009 @ 8:32 nmI met Limpie Basson when he was a supply teacher at my secondary school in Hackney, London UK during the late 1950s. He became an inspiration to me in both music and theatre, encouraging me in my persuit of these disciplines. Every year he would phone me on my birthday and we exchanged annual Christmas cards and the occasional letter (he would apologise for that). However, in 2008 there was no phone call (I phoned but couldn’t get through) and although I sent a card, no card came from him. I guessed the worst. South Africans will remember him as an influential actor, a popular radio commentator and in his town, a valued helper at the toy museum, and to me he was a kind, helpful teacher in the widest sense. A true mentor.
Comment deur Roger Lewis Januarie 27, 2009 @ 10:37 nmPS. I found you through Google and I hope you find my reply an interesting perspective on Limpie. As I can’t read Afrikaans it’s difficult for me to read the newspaper memorials to Limpie, so I would be most grateful for a reply explaining what happened.
